On Feb. 23, SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras announced along with the State University of New York Athletic Conference that intercollegiate athletic competition within SUNY will resume March 20. This means that SUNY Oneonta's spring student athletes — those on the college's track & field, baseball, softball, lacrosse and tennis teams — will once again be able to compete against other schools.
The State University College of Oneonta Foundation Board of Directors announced that the foundation has raised 77 percent of its $25 million goal as part of its “Grow.Thrive.Live. The Future of SUNY Oneonta” comprehensive fundraising campaign. The campaign is critical to the Foundation board’s vision of elevating its endowment to $100 million.
Today, the COVID testing center at SUNY Oneonta administered its 10,000th pool test for COVID since opening Jan. 18 in preparation for the spring semester. Pool testing results show the overall positivity rate has fallen from .74 percent in late January to .19 percent Feb. 19. Repeated testing enables college officials to detect possible spikes in COVID infections and respond in real-time to protect the campus community. Acting President Dennis Craig made the announcement in a video shared campus-wide this afternoon, calling it a milestone in the college’s fight against COVID.
A brand new Experiential Learning Center (ELC) opened this semester in the Hunt College Union, creating a bright, open space where students can learn about many of the hands-on learning experiences they can have at Oneonta.
Spring 2021 classes began at SUNY Oneonta on Jan. 25 and the college has put into action a comprehensive plan for a safe and successful semester. Developed with broad input from students, faculty, staff, public health experts, community leaders and elected officials – including City of Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig – the Spring 2021 Academic Continuity and Health and Safety Plan includes several new initiatives aimed at protecting the safety of the campus and greater Oneonta community.
