SUNY Oneonta was one of 21 colleges and universities featured in Billboard magazine's 2019 spotlight on the nation's top music industry-related programs. From a backstage Q&A with Dave Matthews, to a Music for Life freshman Living Learning Community, SUNY Oneonta gives music-minded students all kinds of opportunities to learn outside the classroom.
Sixty-four SUNY Oneonta students participated in trips last week that took them across the world and back. Some were purely educational, one focused on networking, others were service-based, and several incorporated a little of each.
SUNY Oneonta President Barbara Jean Morris has announced the appointment of Dr. Leamor Kahanov as the college’s new provost. Dr. Kahanov will begin her new job on July 8.
SUNY Oneonta music industry students got to rock out alongside the field’s finest last week at a global music products trade show in Anaheim, Calif.

From Jan. 24 to 27, the students attended The NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Show where, each year, leaders of the music products, pro audio and event technology industries gather for product introductions, business opportunities, networking and inspiration. There were more than 400 educational sessions, 7,000 brands represented and 115,301 registered industry professionals right at students’ fingertips.
Many students use winter break to rest and recuperate from the past semester, but 21 SUNY Oneonta students saw it as a chance to explore and learn in a different part of the world! Trips such as these offer a once-in-a-lifetime taste of adventure, letting students safely experience international travel with multiple modes of transportation, outdoor activities in various weather and terrain, dormitory-style group lodging with limited amenities and intensive cultural immersion.
