Why SUNY Oneonta?

I came here and I just loved it. I went to Cortland and all these other schools and they just didn't feel the same. I came here and I just knew this was the place I wanted to be. It was just so much prettier, and there's so much to do. I love the town. Everything about it was just great.

Best Experiences

The voice class I’m taking with Colby Thomas is so cool because she's basically giving us private lessons. We meet once a week as a group, and then, other than that, she's teaching us songs individually. It is unbelievable to work with someone like her. I love musicals, so being able to work with somebody who actually starred in “The Phantom of the Opera” is unbelievable. It is the coolest thing – I'm not going to lie, she is my favorite person!

What I’ll Remember in 20 Years

I'm in the Music for Life LLC and all the kids on my floor either play an instrument or they sing. And it is so much fun because I'll just go into whoever's room and they'll be playing guitar and we'll just all start singing along. I love it! It was the best decision I've made. Now I’m thinking about minoring in vocal performance.

That's also another reason I wanted to come here – because I knew there was such a good music department and all the music clubs and everything. I wanted to go to a school where I could do music on the side but still do my career in math, and that’s what I’m doing!

About My Major

Right now I'm in a calculus class that is very difficult. But the teacher is so helpful. I can't go to his office hours ever because I have a class at that time. But he goes out of his way to come up to me and make sure I know what's going on. It is so helpful to know that I have someone who is willing to help me – it was such a relief, and I love that about this school.

Plans, Goals, Dreams

I would love to be an algebra teacher in a high school. I love math. Growing up, I never really had a great math teacher, and I always just wanted to be better than that. I always wanted to be that teacher who actually went out of their way to help their kids rather than letting them figure it out on their own because that's what I had to do. I want to help other people succeed.
