Why SUNY Oneonta?
It had a great Music Industry program, and music is a huge part of my life. And it’s the perfect distance from home, so it was the perfect fit.
WONY, Music Industry club, Rock Combo band
I’m in the Music for Life LLC (Living Learning Community), and it’s a lot of fun because through that I met a lot of friends who are also into music. You’ll talk about things and they just get it. We get each other. And then the class we all take is really interesting because we get to have guest speakers come in. It’s really interesting to see everyone else’s stories with music and then talk to your classmates about your stories with music, as well.
About My Major
Aside from the performing aspect, you get to learn the behind-the-scenes of the industry. Like, right now in one of my classes we’re learning about copyright, which is really helpful because then I start looking at things differently, like when people put copyrighted music in the background of one of their YouTube videos. I’ll watch something and think, “This is technically illegal!” Before, I didn’t really put much thought into it. So it has kind of changed my perspective on things.
Plans, Goals, Dreams
I don't know exactly, but I definitely want to work for a record company in the city. In the perfect world, I’d be a singer, but that’s another story! But I’d definitely love working for SONY or some other label, working with artists.
What I’ll Remember in 20 Years
Definitely Rock Combo. I've always wanted to be in a band. The first time that we all came together and played a song through was just, like, such an experience. It was so cool. We all have really different taste in music but kind of all go together, like there's a lot of soul and R&B. Then I love the 80s hair metal tunes, so it kind of just all works out in the end. And we’re going to get to perform together!
