SUNY Oneonta’s second annual Mindful Mile & Fight Hunger 5K event on Sunday, Sept. 23, raised more than $9,300 for the Riverside Elementary School’s Action Hero Backpack Program, a weekend meal-assistance initiative for local children.

Renovation of SUNY Oneonta’s James M. Milne Library is officially complete, four months ahead of schedule. The $8 million renovation project has enhanced study and research areas in both number and quality. Bright, open spaces, modern seating and light fixtures, and pops of teal and yellow make the library a space in which students want to spend time. Nearly every seat and desk area now has direct access to an electrical outlet so students can easily plug in their phones and laptops. Expanded Wi-Fi access coverage reaches deep into the building. Colorful alcoves with comfortable seating, soundproofing panels and glass writing boards make this an ideal space for students to work efficiently.

SUNY Oneonta is among the top 60 colleges in the Northeast for the fifth year in a row, according to U.S. News and World Report’s 2019 rankings of “Best Colleges,” released Sept. 10.

SUNY Oneonta has received a three-year federal grant from the United States Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA-NIFA) to facilitate the National Partnership to Recruit, Prepare and Support Family and Consumer Science Educators, a collaboration with the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) and the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). The $747,525 award and matching funds from the three partner institutions provides a total of $936,572 to address the shortage of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) educators nationwide.

The 2017-18 academic year is off to a great start! The college welcomed a new president, Dr. Barbara Jean Morris, and more than 1,900 freshmen and new transfer students.
