Part-time Job Opportunities

An Important Note About Forms of Identification

All students should be prepared to present acceptable forms of identification to satisfy employment eligibility verification when filling out employment paperwork. This is in accordance with federal law. Previously completed I-9 forms that are filed with SUNY Oneonta may be acceptable if the original forms of identification used have not yet expired. An original, unexpired US Passport or US Passport Card may be presented. A student may also use a Driver's License or a School ID card AND a US Social Security Card or Certificate of Birth. A complete list of acceptable documents that establish employment authorization can be found here: https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/acceptable-documents/list-documents/form-i-9-acceptable-documents

*All forms of ID must be original and unexpired. Photocopies will not be accepted!

On-Campus Temp Service

On-campus departments advertise part-time employment opportunities on Handshake, the Career Development Center's online career management system. Freshman and Transfer students receive a Handshake welcome message containing login instructions prior to the start of classes in August. It is encouraged that students view and apply for positions as early as possible as on-campus positions fill very quickly.

All temp service students are required to complete employment paperwork at the start of each new academic year. Completed employment paperwork must be submitted in person and is processed in the Career Development Center. Please click on "Paperwork" tab for further information.

Federal Work Study (FWS)

The Financial Aid Office is responsible for the administration of the FWS program. The administration of the FWS program is in collaboration with services provided by the Career Development Center. The Financial Aid Office oversees departmental budgets and student eligibility. Development of FWS sites is accomplished through outreach performed by the Student Employment Coordinator in the Career Development Center. Students' FWS jobs and assignments are managed by the Student Employment Coordinator, as well as the hiring process for supervisors and students. Students have the opportunity to choose where they would like to work when applying for FWS jobs on Handshake - SUNY Oneonta's online career management system - and receive individualized assistance during the matching process with off-campus organizations. For questions related to FWS eligibility, please contact the Financial Aid Office (607) 436-2532.

Off-Campus Part-Time Job Opportunities:

We receive job vacancies from off-campus employers throughout the academic year. Students looking to work off-campus may view job postings on Handshake. The majority of all off-campus positions are located within walking distance or the local bus routes.
